Message from Our Late Founder, Prof. Dr. Güntekin Köksal
(Written on the Occasion of Our Company’s 40th Anniversary in 2014)

We possess a spotless 40-year history in the private sector. We are a hardworking, honest, courageous, and pioneering enterprise operating across highly diverse sectors.

Our supreme principle across all our companies is reliability and integrity. The core philosophy that has shaped my entire business life is: ‘You can win back everything, except reputation.’ It is precisely for this reason that we are an organization that places our honor and reputation above any and all material gains.

We are a team that refuses to bow down, never deviates from what it knows to be right, and never shifts its course with every changing wind. In a country like Turkey, which is fraught with economic and political whirlpools, this steadfastness is one of the most fundamental reasons why we have survived and grown stronger for 40 years.

We are a group that shares as it wins, and multiplies as it shares. Having achieved countless milestones hand-in-hand with our employees remains my most justified source of pride.

I have absolute faith that Pet Holding will grow even stronger over many more years and future generations, and as it grows, it will share even more with society. I extend my deepest gratitude to my family and all our employees who have worked alongside me to bring us to this day. I sincerely hope that our group will continue to contribute to the development of our country by introducing massive energy wealth and foreign capital, executing diverse domestic investments, and persistently supporting culture, the arts, education, and sports.

Our Historical Firsts

The first Turkish company to enter the former Soviet Union by providing agency, consultancy, and engineering services.
The first Turkish construction company to expand operations into Siberia and Germany (operating in both East and West Germany).
The first Turkish company to establish leather processing, leather garment, and hazelnut processing factories in Azerbaijan.

2017-2024

2017: Petkontur continued its strategic land investments and property valuation assessments across Turkey.
2017: Petoil acquired a 40% stake in the Chia Surkh field from Genel Energy, entering into an 80% partnership with the KRG (which retains a 20% carried interest).
2017: The Chia Surkh field successfully transitioned from the exploration phase to the production phase, and commercial production logistics were structured.
2018: Necessary infrastructure investments were fully deployed for the Chia Surkh production field.
2018: On May 15, 2018, Petoil officially commenced commercial crude oil production at the Chia Surkh field.
2019: Ayşe Köksal Çetin was elected as the Chairwoman of the Board of Pet Holding.
2019: Pınar Köksal, a founding partner and long-standing Member of the Board of Directors of Pet Holding, passed away
2019: Zeynep Köksal Yaykıran assumed office as the Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Pet Holding.
2020: Petoil completed preliminary preparations for a major well-deepening operation at the Chia Surkh asset.
2022: In September 2022, the venerable founder of Pet Holding, Prof. Dr. Güntekin Köksal, passed away.
2023: Merks Investments Ltd was officially incorporated in the UK.

2012-2016

2013: Petma Marble opened a new beige marble quarry in Mersin, Mut, Türkiye and initiated the export of the stone branded as "Petma Light Beige."
2013: Petkontur sustained its real estate and land bank investments throughout Turkey.
2013: Petoil commenced exploration drilling operations at the Chia Surkh field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
2014: As part of Pet Holding’s 40th-anniversary celebrations, the company sponsored numerous cultural and artistic organizations.
2014: A commemorative corporate history book titled "Our 40-Year Story" was published about Pet Holding.
2015: Petoil executed exploratory oil drilling operations in the state of Texas, USA.
2015: Petma Mermer launched the domestic and international sale of dimensional, cut-to-size marble.
2016: Petoil successfully brought the Chia Surkh field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq online for commercial production.
2016: Petoil acquired an additional 20% stake in the Chia Surkh field from Genel Energy, increasing its total shareholding to 40%.
2016: Drilling operations for the 12th well at the Chia Surkh field were successfully concluded.
2016: Petma continued its active production of light beige marble at the Mut quarry site.

2005-2011

2005: Petoil A.Ş. secured 7 onshore oil exploration licenses in Sinop, Türkiye from the Turkish General Directorate of Petroleum Affairs.
2005: Ottoman Life was established. The company acquired real estate in Turgutreis, Bodrum, Türkiye and launched the Konak Evleri (Mansion Houses) residential project.
2006: Construction of the Konak Evleri project began in November 2006.
2006: Petoil A.Ş. spudded its first exploratory well in the Bina Bawi field in Northern Iraq.
2007: Ottoman Life successfully completed the construction of the Konak Evleri project in July 2007 and delivered the keys to the property owners. Comprising a total of 57 residential units (offering 1, 2, and 3-bedroom configurations) alongside a swimming pool, sauna, fitness center, restaurant, and social facilities, Ottoman Life managed the entire scope from architectural blueprinting and construction to sales and comprehensive after-sales services.
2008: Petoil brought several different operational fields online for development in Northern Iraq.
2010: Petma Marble Ltd. was established.
2011: Petma Mermer commenced the production and export of "Turnalit Beige" block marble from its active quarry located in Turhal, Tokat, Türkiye.

1998-2004

1998: Petoil Baku Limited Liability Company was established to provide upstream oilfield services to Petoil A.Ş., which was producing 150,000 tons of crude oil at the time.
2000: The Azerpetoil Joint Venture Company was restructured into a formal Rehabilitation and Production Sharing Agreement (RPSA) signed between the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), SOCAR Oil Affiliate, Karasu Development Company, and Petoil A.Ş. Under this agreement, Petoil A.Ş. continued its crude oil production as a contractor by establishing the Karasu Operating Company.
2003: To concentrate corporate operations heavily in Iraq, all rights, commitments, and liabilities related to oil production in Azerbaijan were transferred to a third-party company, effectively concluding the Group's production activities in Azerbaijan. Consequently, the assets held by Petoil Baku Ltd. were divested, and the company’s formal liquidation was completed.
2003: A Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) was signed with the Regional Government of Sulaimaniyah (Governorate) on behalf of the Interim Joint Regional Administration of Northern Iraq to conduct oil and gas exploration and production across specified blocks. The core of the company's focus was heavily concentrated on executing this agreement.
2004: Pet Prime International Oil Company Ltd was established as a 50-50 joint venture between Pet Holding and Prime Natural Resources (Houston, USA), subsequently taking over 100% of the working interest shares of the PSA signed by Petoil in Iraq.
2004: Petoil signed a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) for oil exploration and production in Block 3 of the Republic of Yemen. Following this agreement, a farm-in participation agreement was executed between Petoil and Oil Search Ltd. (Australia).
2004: Petoil A.Ş. was granted two oil exploration licenses along the Syrian border by the General Directorate of Petroleum Affairs.

1990-1997

1990: PETPLAN Baugesellschaft mbH was launched in Dresden, East Germany. Specializing heavily in the repair, restoration, and renovation of historical buildings, the company faced such immense demand that in 1992, PETCOS Liegenschaftsverwaltungs und Dienstleistung GmbH was established in Dresden, joining the group as its third joint German-Turkish firm.
1990: The Petazer Joint Venture Company was founded in Azerbaijan in partnership with the Azerittifak enterprise (shares were eventually transferred to the partners in 1994).
1990: Petoil Petroleum and Petroleum Products International Exploration and Operation Corp. was incorporated to spearhead and manage all oil-related operations in Azerbaijan.
1991: In a 50-50 partnership with the Azerbaijan National Oil Company (AZNEFT), the Azerpetoil Joint Venture Company was established, making it the first Turkish company in history to obtain oil exploration and production rights abroad. Operations in this region were heavily prioritized due to the vast oil and gas opportunities within the CIS countries.
1991: To bolster these upstream activities, the Bashpetoil Joint Venture Company was formed in partnership with BASHNEFT, the National Oil Company of the Republic of Bashkortostan (a federal subject of the Russian Federation).
1992: PETBAU Baugesellschaft mbH was established after winning a public municipal tender from the Heppenheim Municipality in Frankfurt for the construction of a 202-unit residential complex.
1993: PETIMPEX Foreign Trade and Investment Limited Company was established in Bulgaria to streamline and facilitate the export operations of Peteks A.Ş. into Eastern Bloc countries.
1993: The Kazaksturkmunay Joint Venture Company was formed to explore and produce crude oil, uniting the Ministry of Geology and Natural Resources Preservation of Kazakhstan, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation, and Petoil A.Ş.
1993: PETPROJECT Gesellschaft für Planung von Hoch-und-Tiefbau mbH was incorporated to provide the necessary civil and structural engineering services demanded by projects secured in Siberia and ongoing operations in Germany.
1993: The Köksal Education Foundation (KEV) was officially established.
1994: In partnership with the company CAP-G, the Karakudukmunay Joint Venture Company was established to conduct oil exploration and production operations in the Karakuduk oil field in Aktau, Kazakhstan (shares were transferred to the partners in 1995).
1994: Pet Trade Bureau was merged with Pet Food Industry and Trade Corp to form Pet Insurance Agency.
1995: REGO Baugesellschaft mbH was established to utilize and absorb the remaining assets and operational capacities of PETPLAN, which had entered liquidation due to declining profit margins in the local market.
1996: PETCOS-PETYA Health Tourism and Treatment Center Corporation was established backed by foreign capital from the group's German subsidiaries to optimize the utilization of the Petya Holiday Resort. The Petcos-Petya Health Center successfully pioneered Turkey's very first integrated dialysis, medical resort, and health tourism programs.
1997: Companies that were no longer deemed strategically viable were placed into formal liquidation.
Strategic Note on Group Agility: Blessed with a dynamic corporate structure, rapid decision-making capabilities, and the financial robustness to fund operations through its own equity without resorting to external debt unless absolutely mandatory, the Pet Holding Group excels at quickly reshaping, renaming, or winding down its subsidiaries to match shifting macroeconomic realities and frequent economic crises in Turkey.
Historically, the consultancy services initially acted as the cash-generating flagships of the group; this role was periodically assumed by the mining company, then came the construction company during the first half of the 1990s, and later the exports company. Today, this vital engine of growth and funding is carried by the oil company, Petoil.
Maintaining its existence during severe national economic crises without any outstanding bank, tax, social security, or market debts, the Group enacted a series of corporate streamlining measures to minimize bureaucratic burdens, preserve tax advantages, and unlock group synergy. Pet Demir Çelik A.Ş., Pet Trans Uluslararası Nakliyat ve Ticaret A.Ş., Pet Mühendislik Müşavirlik Mümessillik A.Ş., and Pet Sigorta Acentalığı A.Ş. were dissolved without liquidation and merged into Peteks A.Ş. In 1996, this consolidated entity was renamed Peteks Patent Marka İşlemleri ve Dış Ticaret A.Ş. Using the exact same methodology, this company, along with Petma Madencilik İmalat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., were merged into Petkontur A.Ş. in 1999, creating the multifaceted Petkontur Corporation. Similarly, in 2003, PETCOS-PETYA Health Tourism and Therapy Center Corporation was absorbed into Petkontur and dissolved without liquidation.

1982-1989

1982: The Group acquired a stake in Özyurt Chemistry Industry Corporation, which was subsequently renamed Diper Chemistry Industry and Trade Corporation (shares were transferred to partners in 1994).
1984: PET-GÜN Paint Production Industry Ltd was established. (The company’s title was changed to PET-KA MArble Industry and Trade Ltd in 1987, and later transformed into Pet Food Industry and Trade Corporation in 1992).
1987: PET-MA Mining Production Ltd was founded, successfully completing the construction of a specialized barite processing factory in Giresun, Türkiye within the same year. (Restructured as Pet-Ma Mining Production and Trade Corporation in 1992).
1988: PETEKS Foreign Trade Corporation was established specifically to manage the foreign trade, international logistics, and export operations of raw barite ore and milled barite products (achieved via the wholesale acquisition of the shares of Tempa Foreign Trade Corporation).
1989: PETİS Service Tourism Corporation was founded to manage, operate, and provide comprehensive hospitality and maintenance services for the PETYA Holiday Village built in Datça, Muğla, Türkiye.
1989: At the close of 1989, Petkontur A.Ş. etched its name as the first Turkish company in Siberia by undertaking the turnkey construction of the 500-bed Novokuznetsk General Surgery Hospital. Serving as the primary engine company of the group at the dawn of the 1990s, Petkontur expanded its Siberian operations to encompass diverse civil works, including polyclinics, residential staff housing, commercial bakeries, cafeterias, reinforced concrete foundation works, and structural steel assembly.
1989: SEK-Marketing Tourismus und Trade GmbH was established in Germany to spearhead the international marketing and sales of the luxury villas constructed in Datça, Türkiye to the European market.

1974-1981

1974: Originally built as a dedicated family enterprise, Pet Holding entered commercial life under the name Pet Trade Bureau, established as a sole proprietorship by H. Güntekin Köksal to provide commercial representation, agency, corporate consultancy, and insurance services.
1979: PET Engineering Consultancy Ltd was established (restructured into a joint-stock company in 1988).
1979: PET-KONTUR Ltd was incorporated to execute general contracting and construction services (restructured into a joint-stock company in 1988).
1979: Gözetim Expertise Service Ltd was formed to complement and support the operations of the group’s existing companies (realigned its focus in 1981 to operate under the name PET Mining Production Ltd).
1979: PETKÖK Food Mining and Industrial Products İmports Exports and Marketing Limited was incorporated. (Transformed into PETMER Mining Products Industry and Trade Limited in 1986, and subsequently renamed Pet Iron Steel Industry and Trade Corporation in 1992 to continue its commercial operations).
1981: PET HOLDING CORPORATION was officially incorporated as the overarching umbrella corporation.
1981: PET Paint Varnish Synthetic Resin Industry Limited was established. (Subsequently re-aligned and renamed Pet Trans International Transportation and Trade Corporation in 1992).

1974-1981

1974 A family-owned company, PET HOLDING was founded in 1974 under the name of PET TİCARET BÜROSU (PET Bureau of Commerce) by H. Güntekin KÖKSAL as a sole proprietorship, with the aim of taking part in the trade business as an agency, consultancy and insurance firm.
1979 PET MÜHENDİSLİK MÜŞAVİRLİK MÜMESSİLLİK LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (PET ENGINEERING, CONSULTANTS & REPRESENTATION LTD. CO.) was founded. (This company became INCORPORATED in 1988.)
1979 PET-KONTUR KONUT İNŞAAT VE TURİZM LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (PET-KONTUR CONSTRUCTION & TOURISM LTD. CO.) was founded to carry out construction and contracting services. (This company became INCORPORATED in 1988.)
1979 GÖZETİM EKSPERTİZ SERVİS LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (GÖZETİM SPECIALIZED SERVICING LTD CO.) was founded with the aim of complementing and supporting the activities of the existing companies. (From 1981 on it has continued working under the name of PET-MADENCİLİK İMALAT LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (PET MINING & PRODUCTION LTD. CO.)
1979 PETKÖK GIDA MADEN VE SANAYİ ÜRÜNLERİ İHRACAT İTHALAT VE PAZARLAMA LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (PETKÖK FOOD, MINING, & INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS IMPORT, EXPORT & SALES LTD. CO.) was founded. (In 1986 it became PETMER MADEN ÜRÜNLERİ SANAYİ VE TİCARET LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (PETMER MINING PRODUCTS INDUSTRY & TRADE LTD. CO.). In 1992 its name became PET DEMİR ÇELİK SANAYİ VE TİCARET ANONİM ŞİRKETİ (PET IRON & STEEL INDUSTRIES AND TRADE INC.) and it has been continuing its commercial activities under this name.)
1981 PET HOLDINGS INCORPORATED was founded.
1981 PET BOYA VERNİK SENTETİK REÇİNE SANAYİ LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (PET PAINT, VARNISH & SYNTHETIC RESIN INDUSTRIES LTD. CO.) was founded. (After 1992 it continued under the name PET TRANS ULUSLARARASI NAKLİYAT VE TİCARET ANONİM ŞİRKETİ (PET TRANS INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORTATION & TRADE INC.)

1982-1989

1982 – Share in ÖZYURT KİMYA SANAYİ INC. was acquired and later, the name of the company was changed to DİPER KİMYA ENDÜSTRİSİ SANAYİ VE TİCARET INC. (In 1994, the share was assigned.)
1984 - PET-GÜN BOYA İMALAT SANAYİ LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ was founded. (The name of the company was changed to PET-KA MERMER SANAYİ VE TİCARET LTD in 1987 and to da PET GIDA SANAYİ VE TİCARET INC. in 1992.
1987 - PET-MA MADENCİLİK İMALAT LTD was founded and in the same year the construction of a barite factory was completed in Giresun. (In 1992, the company was rearranged as PET-MA MADENCİLİK İMALAT SANAYİ VE TİCARET INC.)
1988 - PETEKS DIŞ TİCARET ANONİM ŞİRKETİ was founded in order to conduct the production and export activities of the barite mine and grounded barite’s foreign trade operations. (Shares of Tempa Foreign Trade Co. was purchased.)
1989 - PETİS İŞLETMECİLİK SERVİS TURİZM INC. was founded in order to manage and operate all services of PETYA Holiday Site in Muğla, Datça.
1989 – As the first Turkish company to enter Siberia, PETKONTUR LTD began its activities in Siberia with the construction of 500 bed Novozkuznetsk General Surgery Hospital and continued with policlinic, public housing building, a bread factory and cafeteria.
1989 - SEK-Marketing Tourismus und Trade GmbH was founded for the marketing of the Villas constructed in Datça.

1990-1997

1990 - PETPLAN Baugesellschasft mbH, founded in East Germany (Dresden) was put into operation . The company was especially engaged in the repair and renovation of old buildings. As the company received high demand, PETCOS Liegenschaftsverwaltungs und Dienstleistung GmbH was founded in Dresden and joined the venture as the third Turkish-German company.
1990 - PETAZER Azerittifak JOINT VENTURE COMPANY was established in Azerbaijan. (In 1994, the shares were transferred to the shareholders.)
1990 - PETOİL PETROL VE PETROL ÜRÜNLERİ ULUSLARARASI ARAMA VE İŞLETME INC. was established in order to carry out the oil activities in Azerbaijan.
1991 - A 50-50% share joint venture company with Azerbaijan National Petroleum Company AZNEFT AZERPETOİL was established. They became the first Turkish company to obtain the oil exploration and production rights abroad. More intense operations were carried out due to the oil and natural gas opportunities in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
1991 – In order to support these activities, a joint venture, namely BAŞPETOIL JOINT VENTURE COMPANY was established with Bashkiria’s National Petroleum Company, BAŞNEFT.
1992 – PETBAU Baugesellschaft mbH that won the tender for the construction of 202 houses in Frankfurt, Heppenheim.
1993 - PETİMPEX DIŞ TİCARET VE YATIRIM LTD. was established in order to assist the export of Peteks Inc. in Bulgaria to the East Block countries.
1993 – With the contributions of Geology and Natural Resources Defense Ministry of Kazakhstan, Turkish Petroleum Inc. and Petoil Inc., a joint venture, namely KAZAKTÜRKMUNAY Joint Venture Company, was formed for oil exploration and production purposes
1993 - PETPROJECT Gesellschaft für Planung von Hoch-und-Tiefbau mbH was established in order to conduct the businesses in Siberia and Germany.

1998-2004

1988 – PETOIL BAKI LTD. was founded in order to give oil industry services to PETOIL INC. that produced 150.000 tons.
2000 – AZERPETOIL JOINT VENTURE COMPANY was transformed into a production sharing agreement between Azerbaijan Government Petroleum Company (SOCAR), SOCAR Oil Affiliate, Karasu Development Company and PETOIL INC. With this agreement, PETOIL continued the oil production as the contractor by founding KARASU OPERATING COMPANY.
2003 – In order to intensify the activities in Iraq, the oil production rights, commitments and liabilities in Azerbaijan were transferred to a third party company, and the oil production activities in Azerbaijan were ended. Therefore, with the sale of PETOIL BAKI LTD. assets, the liquidation of the company was completed.
2003 – On behalf of’ Interim Joint Regional Administration of Northern Iraq’, an agreement with the “Regional Government of Sulaimaniyah” (Governorate) was signed for oil and natural gas exploration and production in the areas as stated in the agreement.
2004 – PET PRIME INTERNATIONAL OIL COMPANY was established with the 50% each partnership of PET and Prime Natural Resources (Houston-USA) and acquired 100% shares of the agreement signed by PETOIL in Iraq.
2004 – Petoil, signed a profit sharing agreement with Yemen Government for oil exploration and production in Block 3. Upon this agreement, a participation agreement was made between Oil Search Ltd. (Australia) and Petoil.
2004 – From the General Directorate of Petroleum Affairs, PETOIL INC. acquired two petroleum exploration licenses along the Syria border.

2005-2011

2005 – Petoil Inc. acquired 7 petroleum exploration licenses in Sinop (Black Sea) region of Turkey from the General Directorate of Petroleum Affairs.
2005 - Ottoman Life Real Estate Trade, Construction and Tourism Ltd. Co. was founded. The land acquired in Turgutreis district of Bodrum was turned into the 'Konak Residences' project Ottoman Life.
2006 – The construction of the Konak Residences began in November, 2006, completed in July 2007 and the houses were presented to their owners. Ottoman Life is involved in the project drawings, to construction, sales and after-sales services of the Konak Residences, a total of 57 houses with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, swimming pool, sauna, gym, restaurant and social facilities.
2006 – Petoil began the first drilling in the Bina Bawi field in Northern Iraq.
2006 - The construction of the Konak Residences started in November 2006.
2007 – The construction of the Konak Residences was completed by Ottoman Life in November.
2008 – Petoil began operations in different fields of Northern Iraq.
2010 – Petma Marble, Natural Stone, Mining Co. Ltd. was founded.
2011 – Petma Marble began the production and export of 'Turnalit Beige' marble blocks from its quarry in Tokat, Turhal, Turkey.

2012-2016

2013- Petma Marble and Natural Stone opened a new quarry in Mut region – Mersin city, Turkey and started its international trade with “Petma Light Beige” marble blocks.
2013- Petkontur continues its land investments accross Turkey.
2013- Petoil started drilling at Chia Surkh Field in Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
2014- Pet Holding sponsored many cultural and social activities in Turkey for the celebration of its 40th year anniversary.
2014- “The story of our 40 years” book about Pet Holding was published.
2015- Petoil started operations in Texas and drilled a well, for rehabilitation of old oil fields in USA.
2015- Petma Marble and Natural Stone started selling cut to size marble tiles in and outside of Turkey.
2016- Petoil started oil production in its Chia Surkh Field in Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

2016-2022

2017 – Petoil purchased 20% of Chia Surkh exploration field from Genel Energy and raised its shares to 40%.
2016 – Petoil drilled Chia Surkh 12 well in Chia Surkh exploration site.
2016 – Petma continued production of light beige marble in Mut mine.
2017 – Petkontur continued its land investment & development projects inside Turkey.
2017 – After successfully drilling Chia Surkh 12 well, Petoil purchased the remaining 40% of Chia Surkh shares from Genel Energy and raised its shares to 80%, partnering with KRG (20%).
2017 – Chia Surkh Exploration site in Kurdistan Region has its status changed to production site after succesful discoveries from the drilled wells.
2017 – Petoil made necessary investments for production facilities.
2018 – Petoil started its first production of petroleum from its Chia Surkh field on 15 May 2018.
2019 – Ayşe Köksal Çetin is elected as Chairwoman to Pet Holding and its group of companies.
2019 – Board Member and Founding Partner Pınar Köksal passed away on 19 Aug 2019.
2020 – Petoil worked for well deepening of Chia Surk 10 well.

1961 - 1974

1974 - Bir aile şirketi olan PET HOLDING, 1974 yılında H.Güntekin KÖKSAL tarafından şahıs şirketi olarak kurulan PET TİCARET BÜROSU adı altında mümessillik, müşavirlik ve sigortacılık faaliyetlerinde bulunmak üzere ticari hayata başlamıştır. 1979 - PET MÜHENDİSLİK MÜŞAVİRLİK MÜMESSİLLİK LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ kurulmuştur.
